A Truly
Honest, Unbiased Review Site?
.
Have we
managed to prove our tagline to be true over our first

One year
ago we launched with big ides and a list of
promises. Over the last 365 days we've reviewed and
listed almost a site a day, brought you articles about
the adult industry and even interviews with those in
front of and behind the camera.
But have
we managed to stay loyal to our 'manifesto' or have we
lost our way? Let's take a look back at what we promised
and whether we feel we have managed to achieve all that
we pledged. It's a bit like a general election campaign,
except slightly more meaningful and less sleazy... |

On Saturday 28th October 2006, Masturbation
Invasion went online. Amongst its original
set of pages were a list of rules we had set
ourselves to achieve our goal of being a
truly unbiased and truthful review site. But
let's face it, every review site
claims to be honest. Some even claim
it in their name. But not all of them live
up to their promise, unfortunately. We've
experienced this first-hand. In fact, that's
the very reason why we set up Masturbation
Invasion!
We launched with five promises; to deliver a
100% truthful, honest review of every site,
to present a balanced view regardless of our
own personal likes or dislikes, to offer
constructive criticism designed to encourage
sites to improve their service, to always be
fair but never rude, and to never, ever
'model bash'.
I believe we've fulfilled these promises -
and here are the ten top reasons why: |
|
1. We're
still enjoying it! |
|
One of the problems a lot of review sites
have is that their reviewers tire of looking
at porn. Yeah, yeah, I know - it sounds like
a dream job - not only do you get to look at
porn for free but you get paid for doing it! But of course, it's not that easy.
Remember what happened to Chandler and Joey
when they watched too much free porn in
Friends?
On top of that, it's not actually as sexy as
you might think. You're not just looking at
adult sites to have some fun, you have to
write about them too. Checking out video
resolution isn't exactly an aid to orgasm.
After a while it's easy as reviewers to
become bored of all the nakedness and become
very cynical on the whole.
We both found ourselves bored with our work
when we reviewed for other sites. But since
we've been running Masturbation Invasion
we've enjoyed every minute of it. We've been
able to write in our own style, not in
anyone else's. We've had no pressure to
big-up every site in order to bring in the
sales. We can write openly and honestly, and
have a lot of fun doing so. |
|
2. This
isn't our day-job |
|
It might surprise you to know that many of
the large review sites around actually
provide the main or only source of income
for their webmaster or mistress so it's
vital to them that the site brings in enough
money for them to live on. In this way,
pressure is put onto reviewers to make every
review positive and to downplay any flaws
that the site might have, even if they are
major problems.
When we launched this site we did so with no
intention of giving up our day-jobs. We both
enjoy the other work we do and have been
quite happy to carry on with them. As long as
we break even with our hosting we're happy! |
|
3. We
believe all models are beautiful |
|
Of course we have our favourites, but we
understand that there are many different
kinds of beauty and that everyone finds
something different attractive, therefore
all models are beautiful in their own way.
Occasionally sites can be downright rude
about a certain model, just because they
dislike BBWs or skinny girls or women with
big/small boobs... or whatever the factor
happens to be. We will never, ever be
unkind about a model. Even if a certain
model isn't one of our favourites, we
know there's
someone out there whose favourite she
will be. |
|
4. We
review free sites, too |
|
Lots of review sites decline review requests
from free sites or sites without affiliate
programmes because they will not bring in
any money. We'd never decline a site because
we like to bring people a variety of adult
sites, including ones that won't mean
parting with their hard-earned cash. |
|
5. We
don't employ outside reviewers |
|
Pvt. Hudson and I have been together for
almost eight years so we know each other
pretty well and find that our tastes and
opinions are very similar. As we are the
only two reviewers here you can be sure that
all reviews are presented on a consistent
level. Sites who employ outside reviewers
will always be at a disadvantage because there is
little continuity between reviews. With not
only different writing styles but also
different tastes at play, employing outside
reviewers can leave little room for
continuity.
Plus, it's impossible for webmasters to
ensure impartiality amongst their reviewers
unless they know them very well.
On top of that, many reviewers grow tired
quickly of the free porn and leave after
only a few reviews have been completed. What
this leaves is a bit of an inconsistent hotch-potch of reviews. |
|
6. We
talk to Webmasters |
|
We always try to communicate with the
webmasters of the sites we review. In some
cases a site or collective is so big that we
are not able to get a lot of dialogue going
but in many cases we communicate with them
before and after we review their site. This
means we are able to give them additional
opinions and advice that we were unable to
fit into the review and we gather more
information about the site than we might
find by browsing alone. It's also enabled us
to run special weekends and to bring you
interviews and articles. |
|
7. No
Unapproved Comments Allowed! |
|
Some review sites make the mistake of
allowing readers to add comments and ratings
to reviews without screening them. Yes, in
one way that can be good as readers can see
what other people thought of the sites but
we've seen it backfire on a site we worked
for many moons ago. It's all too easy for
people to 'fix' a reader rating, either in a
positive or negative way. We are, however, more than happy to
include genuine comments on our reviews or
particular sites, which you can
email to us
at any time. |
|
8. We're
more than just a review site |
|
We like to think that we offer our readers a
little more than most other review sites. We
try to update as often as we can with new
site reviews but we also want your visits to
Masturbation Invasion to be as entertaining
as possible. That's why we compliment our
usual reviews with a blog, articles and
various other bits and pieces. In that way
we hope to bring you a more rounded look at
the adult industry to give you a glimpse
behind the scenes and back into its history
too. |
|
9. We
give low scores too! |
|
We have never understood the tactic that some
review sites use of giving every site a high
score. For one thing, readers will see
through this when they notice that all sites
have a score of about 80/100 or 8.5/10 or 4
stars out of five etc. For another, if
someone buys a membership on the strength of
one of their reviews and finds that the
review was misleading then they will likely
never return or trust that site again.
We understand that you are more likely to
return to and trust a site with balanced and
realistic scores. That's why we have a small
percentage of scores over 85/100 and the
majority of sites are scored around 60/100.
We have a lot of sites with scores around
the 50/100 mark and some a lot lower. |
|
10. We
genuinely like porn! |
|
Pvt. Hudson and I have both enjoyed good
porn for a number of years. We both think
there's nothing wrong with a good, healthy
dose of adult entertainment and have found
ourselves pissed off by bad porn that's
neither fun nor erotic on many occasions. We
like looking for excellent and unusual sites
to share with you because we want others to
have fun with porn, too. The day we look at
a picture of Jezebelle Bond, roll our eyes
and say "Put some clothes on, love" will be
the day we stop reviewing - and not a second
before! |
