Ooh look,
another new site with the word 'quickie' in it. I wonder
where I've heard that before….

I think it's worth pointing out from the get go that I don't really 'get' pay-per-view or pay-per-scene sites any more. When you've got so many mega-sites out there that can offer you a couple of thousand DVDs for not much more than a fiver per month (for you Brits) and no DRM limitations, it's becoming increasingly difficult to defend sites such as Movie Quickie nor indeed for them to make a big success of themselves.
Movie Quickie does seem to spot one way of breaking through and that's by advertising some exclusive content. They've managed to snag a partnership with Nicole Sheridan and she has already filmed several videos for them, with more promised in the near future. As far as I can see, this is certainly the only way in which such sites can hope to develop and make a huge success of themselves in the future.
However, there are obviously some people out there that will like this 'rental' system of doing things, and for you there are undoubtedly loads of options available to you here. There are more than enough titles for you in loads of categories, but rather irritatingly they don't tell you how many of them and I don't have any intention of bloody well counting them all! It's touches like this they need to attend to though - the lack of facts, figures, file sizes, model indexes, dates on the updates - these were all a pain in the bum for me.
The download speeds were so slow as well. Even working by scene, the file sizes are pretty big, and the speeds were so sluggish. The prices are obviously completely up to you - you may think they're reasonable or not and certainly, in the normal scheme of things being able to buy a scene for life, basically, works out as being comparatively reasonable value for money. But it's all very well advertising some exclusive content when there are so many issues here that need addressing.
I don't want this to all sound like a negative or to sound like I'm picking on Movie Quickie. Like I say, their archive is a sound one and the studios they are using are very good ones - you can't go much wrong with Adam & Eve and Doghouse Digital in particular. Also, the categories are excellent (they even have piledriver and bachelor party sections!), so Movie Quickie has much to recommend it amongst the problems. But are they outweighed by those negatives?

Movie
Quickie certainly raises several talking points, both
about the site itself and this type of site in general.
There is a lot of room for improvement here in quite a
few areas, I would say, but the basic tools are there
for a very good site. Whether they end up being used
properly remains to be seen. |
