This is one of those
reviews where I don't where to start, really. I always struggle
to come up with the words for a positive review than I do for a
review of a site that's, well, crap. It's mainly because I want
to be able to sum up just about right what exactly the site has
on its side that should see you subscribe to it, and feel that
the site deserves me taking more time over it than I normally
would. So let me introduce you to Watch Me.
It's probably best to describe it as an amateur community - a
bit like a pornographic cross between YouTube and
Facebook. It originated in the UK but doesn't just
pigeonhole itself as a British site and instead embraces
performers from all over the world, although the main
concentration of them is in Europe.
Basically, you sign up
and post videos or pictures, if you want, or you can fork out
cash to watch other people's. If you post your own stuff,
they'll pay you 2p for every minute of your stuff that is
watched, and you can post free previews like they do on pay
sites.
If I'd have reviewed this site right back at its inception I
would have questioned whether it could have been a success at
all with many amateurs opting to post their exploits on free
sites such as YouPorn. But clearly, with almost 4000
videos under its belt, it HAS achieved success and notice, so
that conclusion would have been wrong.
As someone who has seen
rather a lot of sites like YouPorn though, I would say
that the general quality on WatchMe is considerably
better to say the very least, and they actively encourage a wide
variety of content and performers.
The per-minute payment system is always a bone of contention
with lots of people, and I can understand that. Initially I did
question why they used such a system here but it's the fairest
way of working out how the performers and submitters get paid
for their content. It can mean that things can end up being
rather expensive, but with free samples here you can really
ascertain where the quality is likely to be and where to spend
your money.
Credit must go to the makers of Watch Me though for
actively encouraging the participation of professionals and
developing companies on their site - it's a great service that
will ultimately benefit everyone in the long run. The whole site
runs extremely well too with loads of information, menus and
general bits and pieces. It was a thoroughly professional and
completely enjoyable experience, and one of those sites that you
hope will go and be huge. |
